Do you ever feel like there’s not enough time in the day? Like your to-do list is staring you in the face and all you can think is, how on Earth is this all going to get done in time?! Trust me, we’ve all been there, and with the busy schedule of a cheerleader, it becomes hard to juggle school work, practice, social life, and most importantly, sleep!! So what’s the best way to manage all of the craziness swirling around your dizzy head and still make time to squeeze in your workout? Here’s a few tips to keep you ahead of the game!
1. Keep a planner/calendar
Keeping a planner is one of the best ways to stay organized when you have a lot going on. I personally like to write things down the old fashion way, but if you prefer to put things in your phone calendar, that works too! Having your due dates and activities written out reminds you of what you have going on and helps you to allow enough time to get it done. Trust me, even if you think you’re going to remember by making a mental note, there’s a good chance that amidst a busy week, you’ll forget. We’re human, it happens. And, by laying out your week in a visual way, you can see more clearly when you’ll have time to fit your workout into your schedule! Don’t be afraid to mark that down, too!
2. Be proactive
This means don’t procrastinate! Please, do yourself a favor and don’t wait until the last possible moment to start and assignment or wait till it’s 10pm at night and realize you didn’t get a chance to workout. You will feel much less stressed out if you can check some things off your to-do list early in the week and not find yourself scrambling at the last minute. That way, when your friends call to make plans on Thursday night, you will feel excited to participate because you already have all of your work due on Friday complete! It’s a great feeling.
..Which brings me to my next point..
3. Take advantage of free time.. It’s rare and precious
If you find yourself feeling like you have a calm week, with a light work load or light practices, see it as an opportunity to get ahead! Plan an extra workout in the morning in addition to your nightly practice, and don’t be afraid to get a head start on studying for those 2 exams you have next week. I’m not saying you don’t deserve a nap every now and again, but if you use your spare time more efficiently, you’ll set yourself up for success for the coming week. And all those spare minutes when you’re riding the bus every morning or waiting in line for Starbucks (heaven knows that will be awhile) add up too.. Make the most of them!
4. Shut out the distractions! (I’m talking to you, my fellow Instagram addicts)
It’s so easy to let hours pass surfing the web or aimlessly scrolling through social media feeds. Try to put a limit on how much time you spend on your newsfeed each day. If you can cut back even by just 10 minutes per social media site, you’ve just gained an extra half hour in your day (assuming you use the core 3: FB, Twitter, and Insta). Also, really try to avoid multitasking at the gym. Your workout is the one time of the day when you can focus solely on YOU – don’t let a video of your friend’s cat making funny noises take away from your focus and concentration! It’s not nearly as important as you might think. Lastly, when you’re laying in bed about to go to sleep, be strong enough to put your phone down. I promise, it will still be there when you wake up. Trust me, you’ll regret that extra sleep you lost in the morning and you’ll hate yourself for it.. A busy girl like you needs every minute of beauty rest she can get!!
So embrace your busy lifestyle, and use your time wisely! Remember, you have the same amount of hours in a day as Beyonce.

Hi guys, I’m Alexa! I’ve been cheering since I was 8 years old, starting for my rec team, then all four years of high school at Delaware Valley Regional HS where we traveled down to Orlando to compete in UCA Nationals every year. My senior year of high school when I was a captain, we won the Medium Varsity Division II National Championship title, and it was my proudest moment as a cheerleader! I currently attend Penn State University where I am lucky enough to cheer in front of a crowd of 107,000 fans at football games and compete on our All-Girl team at UCA Nationals.
Go State!!
