CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR FEATURE: KAITLYNN LAZO

The CHEERFIT ambassador community is filled with leaders and motivators who all share a passion for fitness, love for cheering and drive to help inspire others.

Our ambassadors share with us their personal stories and obstacles they overcome along the way. Although we try to avoid injuries while cheering, sometimes accidents happen – but the goal for CHEERFIT is to spread the awareness that cheerleaders need a strong fitness component to their current regimen. This week we meet all star cheerleader Kaitlynn, who although experienced set backs with injuries, stays motivated and determined to reach her fitness and cheer goals. We are proud to share with you our ‘Ambassador of the Week Feature’ with Kaitlynn Lazo!

 

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

This is my fourth season of All Star Cheer and I absolutely love it! I also cheer for my junior high squad! I have worked super hard on my flexibility to obtain not only level 5 tumbling, but a flying spot as well. Unfortunately, all my hard work has resulted in my current injury. I started off this season strong pushing almost every day of the week.

These last few months however have been challenging for me. Back in August, I broke my nose falling out of a stunt. I was lucky that it didn’t get dislocated and I didn’t need surgery. For six weeks I kept pushing even though it was hard to breathe through my nose. Around the end of my nose healing I started getting a severe pain in my lower back. I kept going for a few weeks thinking it was a pulled muscle, but it just got worse. After an MRI they told me I had a stress reaction in my back and that I needed to stop doing what I love for 6 weeks.

I am now two weeks into my recovery. It has been very difficult not to run, jump, or tumble but I am optimistic I will come back stronger. I am still getting to fly which I am super thankful! Being a part of CHEERFIT has kept me motivated during my down time. I can’t wait to try all the new workouts when I’m healthy enough to do so. They will be the best part of getting back in shape.


This injury has shown me how important it is to stay FIT and take care of your body.


My goal is to be on a Worlds team next year, and I would love to be a coach someday. In addition to cheer, I love my family and my pets. I love animals and another goal of mine is to become a veterinarian.

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

Being an ambassador has kept me motivated especially during my current injury. It has been hard staying focused, not being able to perform my skills. Being part of the CHEERFIT community has helped me in knowing that I have an amazing support system when I am cleared to return!

WHAT NEW OPPORTUNITIES HAS BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR OPENED UP FOR YOU? 

I have gotten the opportunity to meet so many wonderful people! I have also been introduced to an array of new workouts to keep me FIT!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

My favorite part of being a CHEERFIT ambassador is getting to meet new people that share my fitness goals. The workouts are another wonderful part of being in this group!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL OTHERS WHO WANT TO BECOME AN AMBASSADOR?

I would tell other people that being an ambassador has been such a great experience. Everyone is so wonderful and supportive that you easily stay motivated while keeping yourself fit!

FUN FACT: WHAT 3 THINGS ARE ALWAYS IN YOUR CHEER BAG?

  1. makeup – especially my mom’s “Eyes To Kill” mascara (shh don’t tell my mom)!!
  2. BOWS!!
  3. Rock your Hair hairspray!
