CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

At 4 months old I was diagnosed with a serious heart disease called cardio-myopathy. Doctors told my parents that I would not make it past age 4.

At age 4 I went to try out to be a cheerleader something doctors told me I couldn’t do. During that time, I was still on the heart transplant list that I had been on since age 1. My mother and coaches believed in me and pushed me very hard, and I also tried very hard because I love cheering.

My first year cheering I cried everyday because I didn’t want to exercise/run etc, but wanted to cheer so my coaches kept pushing me. After cheering for two years, at age 6 I went to get a small procedure done that allowed the doctors to see what was happening inside of my heart. After the procedure, doctors told my mother that my heart was so much better and that I could now be able to go inactive on the heart transplant list if I still took my medicine everyday.

My mother strongly believed that cheering/exercising on a regular basis got me to that point.

I am now 8 years old and although I still take medications daily and my heart is still not as normal as it could be, I am still inactive in the transplant list and doctors said I might not need a new heart until college, but everyday I push to not need a heart at all just medicine and I believe if I stay fit that will happen .Cheering is something I love to do and to be a great cheerleader I have to train hard and stay fit and exercising almost everyday made me the great cheerleader I am today!!!

I became a CHEERFIT ambassador about 2 years ago and had to take a hiatus due to competing on 2 teams with practice 5 days a week. I felt like I couldn’t give to my CHEERFIT family like I was suppose to, but now I’m back full force.

Although I was gone as an ambassador, I still implemented my workouts when I could. It not only helped me build muscle, but it helped me strengthen my mind (to believe I could do anything I set it to), and prolonged my endurance (to be able to compete 2 hard routines in a single competition and endure long hours of practices).

Now that I’ve only committed to one team this season, I’m ready to help show the world how beneficial CHEERFIT is to your body and mind!.

CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR FEATURE: ADDISON NASH

The CHEERFIT ambassador community is filled with leaders and motivators who all share a passion for fitness, love for cheering and drive to help inspire others.

Our ambassadors share with us their personal stories and obstacles they overcome along the way. We have an amazing community of athletes who fuel their passion and determination with the CHEERFIT lifestyle. In addition to cheerleading, many of our ambassadors are committed to having a positive impact on their community through other special causes.

This week, we meet Addison, a cheerleader who is determined to never give up, and also an advocate for the Down Syndrome Community. We are amazed by her dedication to the cause and are so very proud to have her as a CHEERFIT ambassador – we share with you our ‘Ambassador of the Week Feature’ with Addison Nash!

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

This story is about my daughter Addison and her struggle with tumble mental blocks . She’s in her gym Sunday – Thursday and begs to stay for extra tumble classes almost every week. She has her ups and downs and has dealt with her fair share of “mental blocks” when it comes to tumbling but this little girl never gives up.

She works her absolute hardest until she’s confident with her tumbling again.

She had a bad block literally a few weeks before her very first competition in November and she was so worried that she would be taken off her team or that she wouldn’t throw the pass at her comp. She got in the gym and worked every day making sure she worked on everything she would do and eventually over came the block.

I’m so proud of her drive to never give up on herself.

– CHEERFIT Ambassador Addison Nash, written by her Mom 🙂

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY VOLUNTEER OR NONPROFIT AND HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE OTHERS?

Addison is a huge advocate for the Down Syndrome Community. Her little brother, Asher is 17 months and has DS. You might have seen him and Addison on the news recently. He has became quite famous. She got her school and cheer gym to wear blue and yellow in October for Down Syndrome Awareness Month. She also created a video to explain Down Syndrome to her peers at school.

One of Addison’s cheer comps is Spirit or Hope in Charlotte, NC. Her gym collects donations to go towards the foundation. Addison and her best friend on her cheer team walked around in the cold during Christmas break raising money on their own for the Spirit of Hope foundation.

Addison is an amazing big sister to her brother Asher. She is not only is biggest advocate, but his best friend. She is excited that her gym is getting a special needs team because she wants to volunteer and help. She hopes her brother will one day be on the team.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

In cheer, Addison is a level 4 tumbler. She has worked so hard to get where she is today!

In school, she in STEM and Robotics club.

Two years ago she won first place for her video she did for her school reflections contest at her school level, county and state.

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

The biggest lesson I learned from my cheer journey this far is I’m going to have set backs and that’s okay. Last summer I thought I was invincible. I was progressing so fast it was amazing! I didn’t think anything could stop me. Until I dislocated my left middle finger. I never thought that could ever happen to me. I had seen that injuries were happening to my peers but I never thought me. I never felt that much pain in my life and just looking at my bones out of place scared me. I immediately became scared to tumble after that.

As much as I wanted to progress, I just kept thinking it could happen again. It took me almost an entire year but with the help of my mom, coaches and friends I finally was able to look past my fear and started to progress again. Just as I was getting back on track I injured my knee and was told I had patella tendinitis. It kept me from working out for about a month. I was a little worried I might stumble back into my mental block, but I convinced myself if the doctor said I was okay to work out, I will not let myself fall back into a block. He said as long as I was careful, I’m free to workout 100% again.

My first time back on the mat I kept telling myself I was okay and today I’m not getting hurt and I didn’t. And I’ve been fine since. Injuries happen and that’s okay.

I have to be prepared to handle what happens after they happen..

It won’t scare me from pushing myself anymore!

– CHEERFIT Ambassador Talayeh Price

ARE YOU INVOLVED IN ANY VOLUNTEER OR NONPROFIT?

I do volunteer work with my high school team. Just recently we volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House. We baked fresh cupcakes for the families that are staying there and served them. We also got a chance to meet and visit with them. It was a very rewarding experience. I’m glad this house is there for people that really need it.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR ACCOMPLISHMENTS?

I was voted Most Improved by my cheer team this past season. I accomplished a lot of cheer goals in such a short time I was really proud of this award. I’m leaving middle school and entering high school with a 3.8 GPA. Hoping to beat my GPA in high school!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING AN AMBASSADOR?

Being a part of a community of girls that share the same love of cheering and working out is the best! I want to inspire everyone, especially the younger girls because it’s important for them to start early!

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

I’m a new ambassador, but I’m hoping being an ambassador will help me to build confidence, inspire others, become a leader, make great friends, and obviously to become more fit!

WHAT WOULD YOU LIKE TO TELL OTHERS WHO HOPE TO BECOME A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

Be prepared to meet new friends, have fun and become inspired to be fit. Becoming an ambassador is a great opportunity!

WHAT 3 THINGS ARE ALWAYS IN YOUR CHEER BAG?

Rock Your Hair hairspray, MAC Ruby Woo lipstick, candy!!!

FAVORITE SONG TO JAM OUT TO DURING A SWEAT SESH:

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE EXERCISE?

FUN FACTS ABOUT ME:

I am loud and goofy and I make people laugh without even trying! I’m the friend you want to have. If you’re sad, mad or hurt I’m the first person to cheer you up. You’ll end up laughing on the floor before I’m finished with you. I love to love and I love everything and everyone!

I’m my mothers only child. You would think I was spoiled but I’m really not. My mom makes me work hard for everything I have or want (even free time). She tells me school and cheer are my jobs. If I want freedom, money, clothes or anything extra I have to set goals and reach them to get my rewards. Nothing comes to me that I didn’t earn. I love her for that. It’s made me more driven.

I used to be a total tomboy but I’m slowly becoming a tomboy/girly girl. As much as I love sports and sweats, I’m starting to love makeup, fashion and glitter!

Aside from cheer, I LOVE to dance! A lot of my dance experience flows into my cheer as well. I have taken jazz, tap and ballet as well as hip hop.

As long as I’m active, I’m happy!

Thank you so much for sharing your story Talayeh! We completely agree preparing mentally and physically for anything is the best way to maintain your confidence! We are thrilled to have you join the ambassador family and can’t wait to check in with your progress – keep us posted on all of your future accomplishments!

Over the year my scoliosis has been getting worse. There are many options, like surgery to fix this issue, which would mean I’d have to miss out on a year of cheer! Thankfully to CHEERFIT training, I am working harder everyday, stretching, conditioning, and doing more work outs to keep my back feeling better and my muscles awake!

CHEERFIT training has also helped me increase my social skills and decrease my anxiety when meeting new people and talking in front of groups! I have always been a nervous “stuttering speaker” but, with the amazing large group of CHEERFIT ambassadors I belong with, I have noticed a huge decrease! (Yay!!)

Over all, CHEERFIT has motivated me in so many ways, from not letting my back issues hold me down to being more comfortable in a crowd.

Leading Your Team

Leading Your Team

Whether you’re the team captain, co-captain, or a senior on your cheer team, you’re looked at as a leader in your teammates eyes. They look to go you when stunts don’t hit, when routines aren’t sharp, when cheers aren’t right and pretty much everything else.  You are the go-to girl/guy when it comes to what’s best for the team.

So how do you take on all that pressure and still be the best cheerleader and teammate you can be? Here’s a few tips!

First of all, be a role model. Be the cheerleader you’d want as your role model, and the kind of teammate you would want to have. Show up on time, know your cheers and chants, be respectful to your teammates and coaches. As a leader just remember, YOU have to be the example!

Second, you need to keep energy levels high. Coaches and teammates are going to look to you when it’s time practice and perform. From the minute you start stretching at practice, to the last second on the competition floor, you need to be excited and confident in your team. When you’re energy is up, it rubs off on everyone else around. Get excited because you do the best sport in the entire world!

You of course will need to be responsible and dependable. You need to keep up to date with all information. Practice locations, competition dates, which uniform you’re wearing that day and what forms need turned in. You want to keep your squad on track, so YOU need to stay on track. Get a journal or planner, write down dates and times. Send out texts once or twice a week with reminders. Your teammates are going to ask YOU the questions, so you must be prepared with answers.

As a leader it’s so crucial that you never treat your teammates as less than yourself. When we get into leadership roles we tend to think we are better than other people just because we hold a certain authoritative role. No cheerleading team is made up of one person, and one person can’t perform an entire routine. Each member of your team is there for a reason, and is a necessary part of the puzzle. Don’t treat anyone like they’re not as good as you; they made the same team you’re on, and you need them perform your team duties for the year. Treat EVERYONE with respect.

I know this isn’t the easiest job, but just remember you were picked for a reason. Stick to these few tips and tricks and you’ll be sure not to fail. Stay confident in yourself and your team, and everything will run smoothly!

Abby has been diagnosed with an non curable autoimmune disease called Morphea. It affects her skin by causing dark spots over her body. If this disease goes untreated it can cause skin thickening that can cause decrease joint mobility, it can cause thickening of the esophagus, and can affect the eyes.

The goal is to get the disease into remission, which can take a few years. Abby is going to have to have weekly injections of Methotrexate and have to have weekly IV steroid infusions, which involves having a home nurse at our house every week. Her immune system will be compromised because of the Methotrexate, so more than likely she will take longer to get over illnesses and they could hit her harder, even a simple cold can cause her to have to go the hospital.

She is having a bit of a rough time adjusting to her “new normal”, but she is one tough kid and will get there😊

She wants to focus more now than ever on helping others to be confident in themselves and never be ashamed of their imperfections and be proud of who they are!
