10 Simple Ways to Instantly Lift Your Spirits!

While we like to be on point 100% of the time, once in a while we feel stuck or challenged with a situation that brings us down. The cheerFIT team has put together a list of our 10 favorite, easy and natural mood-boosters to pick us up and remind us that there are so many great things around us to be thankful for!

  1. Call or visit a friend 

Feeling extra stressed with life right now? A cheerFIT favorite remedy feeling overwhelmed is taking a moment to call a best friend. It’s great to catch up on life and share what’s going on – your mood and energy will instantly change for the better! -Sometimes we need to get some perspective from our closest, best friends to help us stay motivated and remember why we started in the first place!

  1. Pamper yourself 

Let’s face it – we all need a little “me” time once in a while. Maybe you’ve had a hard day or finally conquered that goal you’ve been working on for months – don’t forget to reward yourself! Have a little DIY night with a homemade face mask or bubble bath, and finish the experience with a fresh smoothie or cup of green tea. Add a little ambience with some pretty spa music for total relaxation!

  1. Buy some fresh flowers 

A fresh bouquet of flowers creates a happy addition to any room. Pick up a few sunflowers and put them in a vase in the room you spend the most time in. Sunflowers are known to symbolize long life, happiness and good luck – not to mention their pretty golden color instantly brightens up a room!

  1. Exercise!

This is a no-brainer, especially for you fitness fanatics! Pop in your cheerFIT bootcamp vid or try your favorite cheerFIT challenge (share your results for a little recognition!) Working out naturally boosts your mood and confidence, keeping you looking and feeling amazing!

  1. Put away your technology 

Take a few hours away from your cell phone, iPad, TV, computer, video game, or anything that distracts you from the real world. Step outside and go for a walk or have a face-to-face talk with people in your family. While having access to technology has become a part of our every day life and connects us to the world, sometimes we forget to make time for the people right in front of us with no distractions.

  1. Daydream!

After a busy day of running around, sometimes you’re left feeling overwhelmed and clouded within your thoughts. Take a second to drop everything, close your eyes and sit quietly for a few minutes . . .take the opportunity to think about your day or your week. If you really don’t have time during the day, do this just before bed to clear your mind of any worries and remind yourself of what you accomplished thus far and where you strive to be!

  1. Compliment a stranger 

Doesn’t it feel great when someone says something nice to you? Do the same for someone totally random! Compliment their outfit, hair or positive attitude – I promise you’ll not only make them feel great, but you too will feel happy you took the time to let them know you care.

  1. Donate to a charity or someone in need

We have many blessings in life we often overlook, and some others may not be so fortunate. Go through some of your stuff or good condition clothes that you don’t use anymore and donate them to your favorite charity or to a friend in need. It’s the best feeling when you know you can help others and bring a little happiness to their life.

  1. Spend time with your pet 

Animals love us unconditionally, no matter what mood we are in or what we look like! Unwinding and spending quality time with your beloved fur baby is a great way to relieve anxiety – pup kisses are included for an extra bonus pick-me-up, free of charge J

  1. Volunteer 

Look on Facebook or online for volunteer opportunities in your area. Many animal shelters or homes for children look for volunteers to aid a helping hand – you will brighten up someone else’s day along with your own, which is a total win-win! Plus, it’s a great way to give back to your community and you can add to your resume or portfolio! Perspective schools or scholarship programs love to see community involvement.

Christina was a cheerleader all throughout high school, participating in a few competitions during her time there. She has a passion for the fashion industry and graduated from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC, with years of experience in retail, visual merchandising and styling. The cheerFIT ambassador community is filled with leaders and motivators who all share a passion for fitness, love for cheering and drive to help inspire others. We are made up of a community of driven and educated motivators who constantly strive to see the best in others. We are honored to have a handful of coaches and personal trainers who pride themselves in watching others achieve their fitness goals, land their back tuck, or finally get their “scorpion”.

Our cheerFIT brand ambassadors come from around the world – many have had very different lifestyles prior to getting involved with fitness or cheerleading in general. Sometimes life events cause us to reflect and move forward and see things in a whole new light. Nathan, a coach and personal trainer, shared with us his extremely moving story and what motivates him to help others physically and mentally, turn a bad day into a better day. We are proud to share with you this week’s Ambassador of the Week Feature with Nathan Forsythe.

CAN YOU SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY?

I became a hospital corpsman for the US NAVY right after my little sister passed from a 4 wheeler wreck two days after her 13th birthday. That day I decided that I would help everyone I can and always smile and act goofy the way she always did.


My 8 years in the Navy working at the VA with vets and seeing men and women with lost limbs push and work harder than most, solidified my resolve to not take my body for granted.


With all that said my favorite piece of advice my mentor ever told me was to greet everyone you meet with a smile and a positive attitude. You never know what kind of day someone is having and you just might be the only reason for that person to smile that day.

HOW HAS BEING AN AMBASSADOR HELPED YOU?

Being an ambassador has helped me reach out to more of my students to reach their fitness goals and even create a few sparks for a few others. I’ve been a certified personal trainer with ISTA for 6 months now, but it’s something about the title of being an ambassador the kids look up to.

WHAT NEW OPPORTUNITIES HAS BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR OPENED UP FOR YOU? 

My mentor once told me, “A persons name is everything, so what do you want to come to mind when someone hears your name?” Joining the cheerFIT team has helped with getting my name out there more and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with anyone that asks and I believe you can learn something from everyone you meet, so my ears are always open as well!

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT BEING A CHEERFIT AMBASSADOR?

My favorite part about being a cheerFIT ambassador would for sure have to be the title. Being from a small gym out of Tennessee and being able to say I am an ambassador for cheerFIT shows all of my students they too can do something great, and I am big about leading by example!

We always knew our cheerFIT Ambassador community was filled with leaders and motivators who all share the passion for fitness, love for cheering and drive to help inspire others. Our community has some pretty amazing people – not only do we have a network of cheer enthusiasts, but some of the ambassadors are determined to change the world. . . in this case, with smiles!

The cheerFIT team LOVES to learn about our ambassadors and the activities they are involved in outside of cheerleading. We got in touch with one ambassador who wanted to enforce positive encouragement with a smile campaign. We learned that while many ambassadors are living the cheerFIT lifestyle and managing the craziness of everyday life, they are also missing a loved one overseas.

This week we bring to you a special ‘military edition’ and get to know Adaelia. She shares with us why she loves being a part of the cheerFIT family and how she gets motivated. We are proud to announce the first ‘military edition’, ‘Ambassador of the Week’ feature with Adaelia Huffman!

I am a military “brat” and was born in Germany. I spent the first 7 years of my life in Germany (I even spoke more German than English before moving back to America!). Being a military family has its ups and downs, getting to travel and see different things that you probably wouldn’t get to if you weren’t living overseas. . .

. . .but then you also have to deal with your parent being deployed for a long time. That’s really hard. Especially now that I’m older and pay more attention to what’s going on in the world.


It’s nice having an amazing extended cheer “family” to reach out to if I’m having a rough day.


They always make me laugh and forget why I was feeling sad!

Many of our ambassadors were chosen not only because they are athletes – they also have a drive to bring positive messages to the people they meet and those following them on social media!

If you’re having a bad day, always remind yourself that we have SO many great things in life to be thankful for. We had a smile on our face reading this week’s story of how one ambassador wanted to spread happiness amongst her peers. We are “happy” to share with you this ‘Ambassador of the Week’ feature with Angel Carter.

INSPIRE US! HOW HAVE YOU HAD A POSITIVE IMPACT ON YOUR COMMUNITY?

I started a campaign called BE HAPPY . . .I took some money I had earned and bought rubber bracelets with BE HAPPY printed on them and asked people to wear them. Whenever they catch themselves complaining or being negative, they have to take one off, say something positive and switch arms.


The object is to leave them on the same arm as long as you can as a reminder of how lucky we all are!

We know our community has some pretty amazing people and we are constantly learning about everyone’s story, including their successes and challenges. Erika Bodenhausen shared with us her struggle with injuries and how she overcame and ended on top!

Her story reminds us that injury doesn’t necessarily mean the end. . .once we let our body rest and recover, we get back out there and “go for what we want!”. The cheerFIT team presents to you our ‘Ambassador of the Week’ feature with Erika Bodenhausen.

SHARE WITH US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOUR JOURNEY AND HOW YOU GOT TO WHERE YOU ARE TODAY!

I started cheering when I was 4 and it is still my whole life. In 2010 I was on a large junior level 3 at Stars Vipers. It was around NCA and I started complaining of my back hurting. The parents and gym owner had a meeting and told my parents that I have been in pain, but it was probably just sore muscles that are hurting. My mom said it was just muscles that were sore! I competed NCA and the rest of the competitions that season and my back still hurt. We just finished choreo for the new season and my mom decided to take me to the doctor. We did X-rays and they found nothing.

The doctor said come back in 2 weeks if it still hurts. Of course it still hurt, so we went back and they referred us the orthopedic doctors. Those doctors decided to get me a CT scan and I ended up finding out that I had fractured my L4 and L5 pars bilaterally. I couldn’t cheer for 3 months and I felt so bad!


The doctors told me that if my back still hurts after the 3 months were over and I kept doing things, I could potentially become paralyzed.


I never missed a practice while I was out.

After those months, the doctors cleared me to cheer again. Right before NCA the coaches decided that they wanted me to compete, so I did. . .I won NCA that year!

Then, about two years ago, my foot was hurting and it wouldn’t stop. We went to the doctor and they gave me a boot to help me try and stay off of it. On my way to NCA that year, my doctor called my mom and told her I was to stop activity.

I ended up having a torn ligament and really close to almost another torn ligament. I was in a boot for 3 months. . .but through motivation, determination and commitment – I am now back and better than ever!
