HOW TO GET CHEER ABS – EVEN DURING THE HOLIDAY SEASON

Cheer abs – everyone wants them, but how do you get them?

As the fitness trainer for cheerleaders, I get this  question a lot. Yes, everyone would love to rock a 6 pack in that uniform and ‘show off’ that mid section – but the real way to train your abs is not by doing more crunches.

Are you ready for a little secret?

Ab work requires a unique blend of stability exercises (ahem flyers), proper nutrition, and total body exercises.

A crunch is a crunch is a crunch – BUT exercises that require you to use your entire CORE to strengthen and stabilize are those that produce results. Results come in a variety of forms . Besides just looking good, having a strong core is the #1 reason your stunts hit, your tumbling advances and you nail that routine at nationals!

Advance Stunts

So what’s the difference between a shaky stunt and a solid ‘yup nailed it’ stunt? It’s a strong core. Strengthening your core helps you keep great form and body control, perfect technique and the motivation to hit that stunt with confidence. Especially for those single leg stunts that require a lot of balance and stability  – it is our core that gives us this strength to advance our stunts like a champ.

Good Posture + Confidence

Did you know that weak core muscles contribute to slouching which comes across as a lack of assurance and determination? Good posture trims your silhouette and projects confidence. And as cheerleaders, we are all about projecting confidence, motivation and a positive outlook. Along with bringing out thatconfidence factor, having a strong core lessens the wear and tear on our spine, prevents injury, and boosts power!

Aesthetic

Yes, yes, yes I know, rocking a 6-pack and toned mid section also helps us feel confident and look good in that uniform. Consider this just another benefit : )
